Entry
EC 3.1.7.3                  Enzyme

Name
monoterpenyl-diphosphatase;
bornyl pyrophosphate hydrolase;
monoterpenyl-pyrophosphatase
Class
Hydrolases;
Acting on ester bonds;
Diphosphoric-monoester hydrolases
BRITE hierarchy
Sysname
monoterpenyl-diphosphate diphosphohydrolase
Reaction(IUBMB)
a monoterpenyl diphosphate + H2O = a monoterpenol + diphosphate [RN:R03016]
Reaction(KEGG)
Substrate
monoterpenyl diphosphate [CPD:C03517];
H2O [CPD:C00001]
Product
monoterpenol [CPD:C00863];
diphosphate [CPD:C00013]
Comment
A group of enzymes with varying specificity for the monoterpenol moiety. One has the highest activity on sterically hindered compounds such as (+)-bornyl diphosphate; another has highest activity on the diphosphates of primary allylic alcohols such as geraniol.
History

Reaction(KEGG)
Substrate
geranyl diphosphate [CPD:C00341];
H2O [CPD:C00001]
Product
geraniol [CPD:C01500];
diphosphate [CPD:C00013]
Comment
Isolated from Ocimum basilicum (basil) and Cinnamomum tenuipile (camphor tree). Requires Mg2+ or Mn2+. Geraniol is labelled when formed in the presence of [18O]H2O. Thus mechanism involves a geranyl cation [1]. Neryl diphosphate is hydrolysed more slowly. May be the same as EC 3.1.7.3 monoterpenyl-diphosphatase.
