Name
(-)-deoxypodophyllotoxin synthase;
2-ODD (gene name)
Class
Oxidoreductases;
Acting on paired donors, with incorporation or reduction of molecular oxygen;
With 2-oxoglutarate as one donor, and incorporation of one atom of oxygen into each donor
BRITE hierarchy
Sysname
(-)-yatein,2-oxoglutarate:oxygen oxidoreductase (ring-forming)
Reaction(IUBMB)
(-)-yatein + 2-oxoglutarate + O2 = (-)-deoxypodophyllotoxin + succinate + CO2 + H2O [RN:R11210]
Reaction(KEGG)
Substrate
(-)-yatein [CPD:C10557];
2-oxoglutarate [CPD:C00026];
O2 [CPD:C00007]
Product
(-)-deoxypodophyllotoxin [CPD:C10556];
succinate [CPD:C00042];
CO2 [CPD:C00011];
H2O [CPD:C00001]
Comment
The enzyme, characterized from the plant Sinopodophyllum hexandrum, is involved in the biosynthetic pathway of podophyllotoxin, a non-alkaloid toxin lignan whose derivatives are important anticancer drugs. It catalyses the closure of the central six-membered ring in the aryltetralin scaffold.
