Name
trans-o-hydroxybenzylidenepyruvate hydratase-aldolase;
2'-hydroxybenzalpyruvate aldolase;
NsaE;
tHBPA hydratase-aldolase
Class
Lyases;
Carbon-carbon lyases;
Aldehyde-lyases
BRITE hierarchy
Sysname
(3E)-4-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-2-oxobut-3-enoate hydro-lyase
Reaction(IUBMB)
(3E)-4-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-2-oxobut-3-enoate + H2O = salicylaldehyde + pyruvate [RN:R05136]
Reaction(KEGG)
Substrate
(3E)-4-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-2-oxobut-3-enoate [CPD:C06203];
H2O [CPD:C00001]
Product
salicylaldehyde [CPD:C06202];
pyruvate [CPD:C00022]
Comment
This enzyme is involved in naphthalene degradation. The enzyme catalyses a retro-aldol reaction in vitro, and it accepts a broad range of aldehydes and 4-substituted 2-oxobut-3-enoates as substrates [4].
