Lymphatic filariasis is a mosquito-borne parasitic nematode infection in tropical and subtropical areas of Asia, Africa, the Western Pacific, and some parts of the Americas. Disease pathogenesis is linked to host inflammation invoked by the death of the adult parasite, manifesting as recurrent debilitating fevers, hydrocoeles, lymphangitis and lymphadenitis, and elephantiasis.
