KEGG   ENZYME: 3.1.1.101
Entry
EC 3.1.1.101                Enzyme
Name
poly(ethylene terephthalate) hydrolase;
PETase;
PET hydrolase
Class
Hydrolases;
Acting on ester bonds;
Carboxylic-ester hydrolases
Sysname
poly(ethylene terephthalate) hydrolase
Reaction(IUBMB)
(ethylene terephthalate)n + H2O = (ethylene terephthalate)n-1 + 4-[(2-hydroxyethoxy)carbonyl]benzoate [RN:R11540]
Reaction(KEGG)
R11540
Substrate
(ethylene terephthalate)n [CPD:C21451];
H2O [CPD:C00001]
Product
(ethylene terephthalate)n-1;
4-[(2-hydroxyethoxy)carbonyl]benzoate [CPD:C21450]
Comment
The enzyme, isolated from the bacterium Ideonella sakaiensis, also produces small amounts of terephthalate (cf. EC 3.1.1.102, mono(ethylene terephthalate) hydrolase). The reaction takes place on PET-film placed in solution.
