KEGG   ENZYME: 1.1.1.395
Entry
EC 1.1.1.395                Enzyme
Name
3alpha-hydroxy bile acid-CoA-ester 3-dehydrogenase;
baiA1 (gene name);
baiA2 (gene name);
baiA3 (gene name)
Class
Oxidoreductases;
Acting on the CH-OH group of donors;
With NAD+ or NADP+ as acceptor
Sysname
3alpha-hydroxy-bile-acid-CoA-ester:NAD+ 3-oxidoreductase
Reaction(IUBMB)
a 3alpha-hydroxy bile acid CoA ester + NAD+ = a 3-oxo bile acid CoA ester + NADH + H+
Substrate
3alpha-hydroxy bile acid CoA ester;
NAD+ [CPD:C00003]
Product
3-oxo bile acid CoA ester;
NADH [CPD:C00004];
H+ [CPD:C00080]
Comment
This bacterial enzyme is involved in the 7-dehydroxylation process associated with bile acid degradation. The enzyme has very little activity with unconjugated bile acid substrates. It has similar activity with choloyl-CoA, chenodeoxycholoyl-CoA, deoxycholoyl-CoA, and lithocholoyl-CoA.
