KEGG   ENZYME: 2.6.1.119
Entry
EC 2.6.1.119                Enzyme
Name
vanillin aminotransferase;
VAMT (gene name)
Class
Transferases;
Transferring nitrogenous groups;
Transaminases
Sysname
L-alanine:vanillin aminotransferase
Reaction(IUBMB)
L-alanine + vanillin = pyruvate + vanillylamine [RN:R12622]
Reaction(KEGG)
R12622
Substrate
L-alanine [CPD:C00041];
vanillin [CPD:C00755]
Product
pyruvate [CPD:C00022];
vanillylamine [CPD:C16666]
Comment
The enzyme participates in the biosynthesis of capsaicinoids in pungent cultivars of Capsicum sp. In vivo it has only been assayed in the reverse direction, where the preferred amino group acceptors were found to be pyruvate and oxaloacetate.
