Sarcoidosis is a multisystem disease characterized by granulomatous inflammation throughout the body afflicting different organ systems. Pulmonary complaints are most common, however, cardiac, optic, and neurologic manifestations carry high mortality and morbidity. Although the exact cause of sarcoidosis has yet to be discovered, it is believed that certain genetic predispositions in conjunction with environmental triggers are at the crux of the disease process.
