Tick-borne rickettsioses are caused by gram-negative obligate intracellular bacteria belonging to the spotted fever group (SFG) of the genus Rickettsia within the family Rickettsiaceae in the order Rickettsiales. The diseases present with high fever, an inoculation eschar, and a maculopapular rash.
