Sysname
ferrocytochrome-c:Fe3+ oxidoreductase
Reaction(IUBMB)
ferrocytochrome c + Fe3+ = ferricytochrome c + Fe2+ [RN:R05318]
Reaction(KEGG)
R05318
Substrate
ferrocytochrome c [CPD:C00126];
Fe3+ [CPD:C14819]
Product
ferricytochrome c [CPD:C00125];
Fe2+ [CPD:C14818]
Comment
The MtrC and OmcA proteins of the bacterium Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 are decaheme c-type cytochromes that reduce iron oxides extracellularly, passing the electrons to MtrA, another decaheme c-type cytochrome located in the periplasm.
History
EC 1.16.2.1 created 1972 as EC 1.9.99.1, transferred 2014 to EC 1.9.98.1, transferred 2024 to EC 1.16.2.1
