Blastomycosis is a fungal infection caused by the organism Blastomyces dermatitidis, which is a dimorphic fungus that grows as a filamentous mold in the environment and as budding yeast in human tissue. Blastomycosis is primarily a pulmonary infection, but dissemination occurs frequently and leads to the involvement of skin, bones and joints, the genitourinary tract, and other areas.
