Capillariasis is an infectious disease caused by nematode worms of the genus Capillaria. Intestinal capillariasis caused by Capillaria philippinensis appeared first in the Philippines in 1964. Major outbreaks have occurred in the Philippines and Thailand. It is believed that the means of transmission of C. philippinensis is by eating uncooked fish.
Two rare causes of zoonotic capillariasis in humans include C. hepatica, which causes a hepatic capillariasis, and C. aerophila, which causes a pulmonary capillariasis.
