Thermophilic chemolithoautotroph.
Capable of growing on hydrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and mineral salts.
Has not been shown to grow anaerobically with nitrate as an electron acceptor in the laboratory.
First observed at the turn of the century, growing at 89 deg C in the outflow of hot springs in Yellowstone National Park.
