Scaly-foot gastropods, which are snails with mineralized scales covering the sides of its foot, have a gammaproteobacterial endosymbiont in their enlarged esophageal glands.
Obtained by means of DSV Shinkai 6500 at the Kairei hydrothermal field in the Central Indian Ridge (25 deg 19.23 min S, 70 deg 02.42 min E).
