KEGG   ENZYME: 1.5.1.56
Entry
EC 1.5.1.56                 Enzyme
Name
3,17-didehydrostemmadenine reductase;
Redox1
Class
Oxidoreductases;
Acting on the CH-NH group of donors;
With NAD+ or NADP+ as acceptor
Sysname
17-dehydrostemmadenine:NADP+ 3(4)-oxidoreductase
Reaction(IUBMB)
17-dehydrostemmadenine + NADP+ = 3,17-didehydrostemmadenine + NADPH + H+ [RN:R13348]
Reaction(KEGG)
R13348
Substrate
17-dehydrostemmadenine [CPD:C22937];
NADP+ [CPD:C00006]
Product
3,17-didehydrostemmadenine [CPD:C22936];
NADPH [CPD:C00005];
H+ [CPD:C00080]
Comment
The enzyme, characterized from the plant Catharanthus roseus (Madagascar periwinkle), participates in a biosynthetic pathway that leads to production of the bisindole alkaloid compounds vinblastine and vincristine, which are used as anticancer drugs. Both the substrate and the product of the enzyme are unstable.
