	Immunoglobulin superfamily cell adhesion molecules (IgSF CAMs) are cell surface proteins that mediate calcium-independent adhesion via their Ig-like domains. These extracellular regions commonly form homophilic interactions with similar molecules on adjacent cells but can also bind heterophilically to various other molecular partners. Their intracellular tails associate with cytoskeletal and adaptor proteins, linking external adhesion events to intracellular signaling. Through these mechanisms, IgSF CAMs play key roles in both normal physiological regulation and disease processes such as cancer development.
